What is Zero-Based Budgeting?

I previously mentioned that I did my June budget for two nights. You might be curious what process I did and why in the world it took me two nights? 🤔

Some of you may not be fresh on this process and may already have been practicing it. I “used” to think I was doing it right in my past life only to find out, I screwed it up.

To be honest, it feels scary to see that there’s $0 left in the account; but I have learned to trust the process. Zero-based budgeting is merely giving each dollar on your bank account a job – every.single.cent.

To make things simple, it is income minus expenses.

Example, if you are earning PhP10,000 a month then you are assigning where this P10,000 should go: paying bills, saving money, paying off debt, and living life!

So do not fret when you do zero-based budgeting! It is knowing that you are giving every dollar a name, an assignment. You are telling your money where to go, instead of wondering where it went. Once you start assigning each dollar a place to go, you don’t even have to think about it!

It’s empowering!

You are in control in this process and not the money controlling you.

Your financial journey is your own; feel free to do what you think is best for yourself.

  1. This is what I do and it works for me. I learned ZBB from the accounts I follow on Instagram. At first, I was scared too but I’m glad I gave it a try.

    1. @Eds, Hey Marie! Good on you! Some people are more comfortable doing the percentage-based process but it doesn’t work for us. Glad ZBB is working for you too! I learned ZBB from my support community coming from various parts of the globe. Cheers!
